Legal Aid Council Hosts 2020 Intensive Capacity Building for Zonal Staff
The legal Aid Council has organized this year intensive in-house capacity building for staff of the council in South-South Zone in order to boost their productivities. The event which took place in Uyo recently with the theme “setting a new agenda for Legal Aid Council, Nigeria” is for the betterment of the society.
In his address, the Director General (DG) of the council, Aliyu Baguda Abubakar thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and Honourable Attoney-General of the Federal and Minister of Justice, Mallam Abubakar Malami (SAN) for their kind laudable gestures to reposition the council for efficiency and greater productivity. Speaking on the importance of the workshop, however the Director General stated that the training exercise primarily is meant to boast the capacity of the staff of the council for efficiency and productivity. He further explained that the 5-day intensive in-house capacity building for the staff of the Legal Aid Council is scheduled for all the six-geopolitical zones of the Country.
Furthermore, Mr. Aliyu Abubakar likewise mentioned some of the achievements which the Council has recorded so far under his leadership to include offsetting all staff and 3rd party liabilities, purchasement of 64 project vehicles for use by Council officers across all the zones, intensive renovation of the council headquarters building in Abuja, working assiduously to improve condition of service of the council staff and other incentive packages. Hence, he has admonished participants to take the workshops seriously.
In the same vein, the Secretary General of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mrs. Joyce Uduak equally stressed on the importance of the workshop; saying that the choice of Uyo for the event is based on the peaceful reputation of the State. Also, she explained that the Council is meant to give voice to the voiceless and justice for the poor in the society. Therefore, she charged participants to take the training seriously for good performance. Likewise, in his goodwill message, the State attoney-general and commissioner of justice, Barr. Uwemedimo Nwoko appreciates the Council DG for choosing Akwa Ibom for the event and wished them a successful deliberation.
