
Legal Aid Council Secured Release of Nine Inmates During Goal Delivery in Imo State
The joy of 9 (nine) inmates remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Service Centre in Owerri, Imo State knew no bound on the 22nd of December, 2020 when the Chief Judge of Imo State, Hon. Justice l.O. Agugua led other Judges of the State High Court to conduct gaol delivery at Owerri Correctional Centre.
In attendance were the Departmental heads of the Correctional Centre Owerri, Representatives of Nigerian Bar Association and FIDA Imo State, the Imo state Director of Public Prosecution and his team.
The legal team of Legal Aid Council in Imo State was led by the State Coordinator Mrs Ngozi M. Ejike and appearing with her was Mrs Linda Mogekwu a Principal Legal Aid Officer. The Council defended some of the Defendants at the Court sitting and to the glory of God, 9 inmates charged for different offences were discharged, 23 inmates were granted bail in most liberal terms and 20 cases were assigned to various High Courts and Magistrate Courts upon the orders of the Chief Judge. The Chief Judge further directed that all assigned cases must be concluded within 6 months from January 2021.
What a great way for the released inmates to enjoy the season! Kudos to Legal Aid Council.
