Lagos State Lac Office Undertake PDSS Week

As part of its activity in fulfilling its mandate, the Legal Aid Council (LAC) Lagos State office in partnership with members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Lagos State, Office of the Public Defender (OPD) undertake a Police Duty Solicitor Scheme (PDSS) week in Lagos State from the 17th to the 21st of May 2021.

The principal objectives of PDSS is to provide free legal services in all Police formations, in fulfilment of the legal and constitutional obligations concerning procedures for arrest, detention and trial by the Nigerian Police Force.
The legal Instrument for Operations of PDSS is Nigeria Police Force Order 20 as amended signed by the Inspector General of Police on the 18th of September, 2017.

In the course of the week LAC with its partners were able to secure release of suspects detained in several Police Stations across Lagos State which include Ikorodu, Agbowa, Ejigbo, Iseri, Somolu, Ketu, Ikeja, Festac, Ajegunle Police stations among others .

It was a big relief when Magistrates attended to suspects in detention in some of the Police Stations which brought succour to detainees that could not access Courts as a result of Judiciary Staff workers (JUSUN) strike.
