The Legal Aid Council of Nigeria rewarded seventeen staff of the council drawn from various departments and units as the best staff of the year using the Servicom criteria.
The Director Criminal Justice Department, Abdulfattah Bakre who represented the Director General LACoN, Mr. Aliyu Abubakar, presented the staff with gifts and urged them to work harder having been motivated by the council.
He equally called on the entire staff to continue to put in their best so that the Council will be living up to the expectations as regards to her mandate because to whom much is given, much is expected.
The rewarded staff comprises of Lawyers and non lawyers.
The Deputy Director in charge of Servicom unit, Mrs. Mariam Ibrahim applauded the chief executive of LACoN for his generosity in making the resources needed available for the council to join other ministries, MDAs and the private sector to celebrate the National service week pointing out that this year’s own was far better than last year.
She said she was optimistic that the coming year by the special grace of God will be far better.
Ibrahim further informed the staff that every one of them did well but there are some that are making extra sacrifices in discharging their duties especially those that will report to work by early and close late.
In addition, the work load of the council is much going by her mandate.
“Our lawyers, paralegals and the press crew are always in correctional centres all over the federation for our monthly routin visits and as such it will be nice if the Federal government can look into the council for more support in the areas of manpower, operational vehicles and manpower.
“Recall that legal aid council remains the official voice of the voiceless with the mandate of assisting the indigent citizens of Nigeria through representation in courts and alternative disputes resolution- mediation”. She said.
For her part, the National Coordinator of Servicom, Nnenna Akajemeli who was represented by Kikelomo Olaniyan said that the essence of the service week is to celebrate hard working staff to spur others to work harder.
She expressed satisfaction in the way the council handled the service week both in appreciating the council’s clients who came around during the week-long activities and the manner the council appreciated hard working staff despite the the lean budgetary allocation experienced across the ministries and MDAs.
The honour was bestowed on the deserving staff during the recently concluded one week activities to mark the 2024 service week organized by the Servicom unit of the council.
